UFCW Local 75 hosted an informational session in Cincinnati, Ohio, to discuss President Obama’s recent executive actions on immigration.
On January 11, UFCW Local 75 hosted an informational session at their field office in Cincinnati, Ohio. More than 100 attendees discussed President Obama’s recent executive action on immigration. The informational session was run by UFCW Executive Vice President and Director of the Civil Rights and Community Action Department Esther Lopez and UFCW Local 75 organizer Francisco Castillo.
Prior to session, Lopez and Castillo held a question and answer session at San Carlos Catholic Church in Cincinnati to address specific immigration questions and issues from UFCW members and their families.
In November, President Obama put a program in place known as Deferred Action for Parents or DAP to remove the threat of deportation for parents of U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents. Many UFCW local unions are hosting forums to help members determine whether they qualify, gather necessary documentation, prescreen their applications, and answer important legal questions.
“The President’s action is going to help a lot of families in my community. I’m proud that my union is taking the lead on getting people the information they need,” said Alejandra Alvarado, a UFCW Local 75 steward who works at Sugar Creek Packing Company and attended the session.
