On Feb. 4, more than 200 registered nurses, technical employees and service workers at Summit Pacific Medical Center in Elma, Wash., joined UFCW Local 21 for a better life. These hard-working women and men joined our union family because they knew their colleagues at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen were represented by UFCW Local 21 and wanted to be able to earn the same good wages and benefits.
Members of UFCW Local 21 at Grays Harbor Community Hospital played a big role in helping to organize this unit. Grays Harbor is wall-to-wall union and in close proximity to Summit Pacific Medical Center, and the members of UFCW Local 21 who work at Grays Harbor spoke to their colleagues at Summit Pacific about the value of belonging to our union family.
“The success of this organizing, like all organizing, required relationships based on trust and respect with each other and our coworkers, UFCW Local 21 staff and, importantly, other UFCW Local 21 members like us from other workplaces,” said the organizing committee at Summit Pacific Medical Center.
