As we celebrate Pride Month this June, UFCW OUTreach has created a Pride Guide to help locals show their support for all of our LGBTQ members. Along with participating in parades, the OUTreach board encourages local unions to add voter registration to their pride events in preparation for 2020. UFCW OUTreach also has free OUTreach pride stickers for locals, which were designed by UFCW Local 555.
“While true UFCW pride is all year long, we look forward to seeing beautiful pride throughout June across the U.S. and Canada as thousands of UFCW members, their families and friends march and celebrate our inclusive union,” said UFCW OUTreach Chair Michele Kessler.
“Union Pride is more than parades; rather, it’s about negotiating non-discrimination language that includes sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression and holding educational trainings for staff and stewards on LGBTQ+ issues,” added Kessler. “Union pride is about ensuring our union funds have transgender inclusive health care and letting our members know that their union has their backs in the workplace and in our communities.”
The Pride Guide is available here. You can obtain free OUTreach pride stickers by contacting Michele Kessler at mkessler@ufcw1776.org.
If your local is interested in sharing photos of events during Pride Month, please send them to Julie Anderson at janderson@ufcw.org.
