The UFCW’s Education and Staff Development Department is offering a variety of training opportunities to locals, including Foundational Leadership Development training. The department recently held these training sessions for UFCW Locals 555 and 951 in in Tigard, Ore., and Grand Rapids, Mich.

The Foundational Leadership Development training sessions with UFCW Locals 555 and 951 were facilitated by Professor Rodney L. Brown, who partners with Cornell University, in collaboration with the Education and Staff Development Department. During these training sessions, Local 555 and 951 leadership teams, in preparation for their 2027 bargaining, used the DISC behavior assessment tool to improve communication, understand team dynamics, develop leadership skills, resolve conflicts, and strengthen hiring and training practices within their locals.
“The Education and Staff Development Department’s first quarter of 2026 was both busy and rewarding,” said Director of Education and Staff Development Jenny Reed. “Across multiple locals and regions, we expanded leadership development, strengthened steward engagement, and deepened collaboration with partner departments to better support members and staff.”
