Dom Amodeo Produce workers at the Ontario Food Terminal in Ontario, Canada, recently joined UFCW Local 1006A.
These workers, who are employed in the warehousing and shipping divisions of the company, sought union representation to achieve job protection and improvements to their working conditions. They voted to join UFCW Local 1006A through an online vote conducted by the Ontario Labour Relations Board.
“We joined the union because we wanted to improve our wages, negotiate benefits and improve our hours of work,” said a worker from Dom Amodeo Produce.
“I wanted to be part of a union because I wanted to find purpose in my life — a purpose that keeps me going every day, that gives meaning to my work, and reminds me that what we do can always be made better and fairer,” said another worker from Dom Amodeo Produce.
“It was incredible to see how the workers came together and supported each other during this campaign,” said UFCW Local 1006A Director of Organizing Lesley Prince. “UFCW representation provides workers with the strength and protection they need to improve their rights and change their workplaces for the better.”

The organizing win at Dom Amodeo Produce marks the second unit of workers at the Ontario Food Terminal to join UFCW Local 1006A, which also represents workers at the Provincial Fruit Company.
