The UFCW is encouraging all REI members to make their voices heard and reject REI’s corporate candidates in the upcoming REI Board of Directors election.

While the UFCW’s national REI campaign has been successful in organizing 11 REI stores in New York, California, Ohio, Illinois, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Washington, Minnesota, and Indiana, REI’s CEO and top leadership—which is overseen by REI’s Board of Directors—have taken dozens of illegal actions to slow the tide of unionization at the co-op.
Unionized REI employees are calling on REI active members to cast a “withhold” vote in this year’s Board of Directors election after the company excluded two pro-climate, pro-worker candidates from the ballot—Tefere Gebre, chief program officer at Greenpeace USA, and Shemona Moreno, executive director of the nonprofit 350 Seattle.
Anyone who has an active REI membership can vote in its board elections. To be considered a “active member” and entitled to vote, you must have purchased at least $10 worth of merchandise at REI, had a shipping charge of at least $10, or become a new member in 2024. If you’re an active member, you can start voting here. The deadline to vote is May 1.
Please share this webpage with all the REI members you know. By casting a “withhold” vote, you can help make meaningful change at REI.
