RWDSU workers at Utrecht Art Supply in New York City are coming together to fight for a fair contract. Workers voted for a union voice on the job in March of this year because of low wages and having their hours cut when Utrecht was bought by their competitor Blick Art Materials.
A Sales Associate at Utrecht Art Supply said, “Companies fight extremely hard to stop unions and employees from organizing. I’ve worked at a union store before, so I know the benefits of having a union. It’s been extremely difficult to get our work done at Utrecht, especially when we know the company can give us more hours and raise our wages. I’m proud of my coworkers for choosing to make their voices heard by voting to be a part of the RWDSU.”
Since joining the RWDSU, workers have already won immediate improvements such as increased weekly hours. For their first contract, workers are calling on the company to provide a living wage, regular and scheduled raises, and fair scheduling policies to help ensure proper staffing levels.
Help support Utrecht Art workers during contract negotiations by signing the petition and telling Blick Art Materials that you stand with workers as they fight to win a good contract.
