On July 19, about 1,000 members of UFCW Local 400 who work at 15 Shoppers grocery stores in Maryland and Virginia ratified a strong, new contract.
The two-year contract, which was ratified by an overwhelming majority of the members, includes the following provisions:
- Better pay scales.
- Top-of-scale pay raises of $2.20 per hour over the life of the contract.
- No out-of-pocket cost increases or other changes in health care.
- Fully funded pension.
- Four weeks of vacation after 12 years instead of 13 years.
- New language to develop procedures, trainings, and protocols that protect workers in case of a shooting, other violent attack, or other similar emergency.
“We’d like to thank the members of our bargaining advisory committee for their work in reaching this agreement,” said UFCW Local 400 President Mark Federici. “Taken together, they have nearly 128 years of combined experience in the stores, and it was this wisdom that helped us to reach a strong contract.”
