On March 13, members of UFCW Local 876 who work at the H&M store in downtown Detroit ratified their first union contract. These workers joined our union last July—marking the first time H&M workers have unionized in Michigan.

Key provisions of the three-year contract include:
• Guaranteed annual raises. Their previous system was merit-based only, with no guarantee of receiving raises.
• Guaranteed weekly hours.
• A new parking subsidy pilot program, where the company will provide our members with up to $75.00 per week to cover their parking fees.
“Our newest members at the downtown Detroit H&M have reached a significant milestone for any newly organized workplace: they have successfully ratified their first-ever contract,” said UFCW Local 876 President Dan Pedersen. “The workers at H&M are the most important part of the equation—they are the reason customers walk through the doors, ready to spend their hard-earned money. This contract recognizes that reality and provides them with the means to build better lives for themselves and their families. This victory is proof that solidarity is more than just a buzzword used in speeches or opening statements—it is the act of creating a better future for all.”
