On August 1, workers at Vannoni Living Center, an assisted living facility in Mishawaka, Ind., joined UFCW Local 700.

The workers, who are employed as licensed practical nurses, qualified medical assistants, dietary aides, cooks, and activity coordinators, joined our union to secure better wages and health care, equal treatment and accountability, stronger safety protocols, and a healthier work-life balance.
The organizing campaign was powered by a strong internal committee, in-person conversations, and a commitment to unity. Despite union-busting efforts by management, the workers remained resilient and focused, maintaining high morale throughout the process.
“With the UFCW, we are looking for better benefits, increased wages, and authority that actually follows rules, instead of making up rules as they go along,” said the workers in a joint statement.
