On April 30, more than 300 members of UFCW Local 152 who work at The Fresh Grocer stores in Philadelphia and Upper Darby, Pa., ratified a new contract. These members work in positions ranging from the friendly front-end staff to the specialized meat, seafood, and deli departments.

The four-year contract includes wage increases across the board for all clerks, classified positions, and department managers. The holiday pay and night shift premiums were also increased. Employees choosing to waive health benefits will now have a greater payment.
To improve their work-life balance, these workers can now take vacation time in days instead of straight weeks and can work four 10-hour days if mutually agreed upon. Funeral leave was also expanded and pandemic language was added to protect these essential workers.
