The month of June is Pride Month, a time to celebrate the accomplishments of 2SLGBTQ+ individuals in our union family and let them know we are a welcoming and inclusive union. Pride Month is also an opportunity to reach out to 2SLGBTQ+ workers seeking union representation and commit to the ongoing pursuit of equal justice and true equity for the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

Many UFCW locals across the U.S. and Canada already participate in Pride Month events, which are another way to show workers who want to organize that the UFCW is 2SLGBTQ+ inclusive. UFCW OUTreach has several free resources available on their website and by request for local unions, including a new 2025 Pride Sticker and the new 2SLGBTQ+ Collective Bargaining Guide, which is available in English and French. UFCW OUTreach is also hosting a virtual training titled, “How to do 2SLGBTQ+ Allyship in 2025 & Create a Stronger Union” on Monday, June 9 at 3 p.m. (ET). You can register here.
“True union pride best practices are negotiating 2SLGBTQ+ inclusive contract language, using pronouns and ensuring our workplaces are safe for all,” said UFCW OUTreach Chair Michele Kessler.
You can learn more about UFCW OUTreach here. If your local is interested in sharing photos of events or highlighting a member during Pride Month, please submit that information to Julie Anderson at janderson@ufcw.org.
