Last week, the UFCW applauded President Joe Biden’s announcement that he will cancel up to $20,000 of student debt for Pell Grant recipients and up to $10,000 for millions of additional Americans.
“Today, President Joe Biden delivered on a key campaign promise to cancel student debt which will directly improve the lives and financial security of millions of working American families, including UFCW members, and put money directly back in their pockets,” said UFCW International President Marc Perrone in a statement.
“Student debt has been a burden for millions of Americans from all walks of life, but our hard-working, essential members have been among those who are disproportionately impacted. Whether it’s the community college student running a grocery store cash register or the meat processing worker who took out loans to help their kids achieve the American dream, resolving the student debt crisis will help provide a better life for our hard-working, essential members and their families who have earned it and deserve it. The UFCW applauds the Biden Administration for taking this critical step towards that goal today, and we are celebrating with every single one of our members whose lives will be improved by the elimination of this debt.”
