Safeway Workers in Hawaii Ratify a New Contract

Over 1,900 members of UFCW Local 480 who work at 23 Safeway stores on four islands in Hawaii ratified a new contract on May 31 that strengthens wages.

The new 42-month contract includes first-time ever parity for all UFCW Local 480 members at the 23 Safeway stores throughout the state, and wage increases ranging from 21 percent to 61 percent. The contract also includes bonuses for both part-time and full-time workers ranging between $4,100 and $6,800, and increases in Health and Welfare for both active members and retirees ranging from 7 percent to 12 percent.

“This contract changes lives,” said UFCW Local 480 President Pat Loo.
