UFCW Local 700 representatives are continuing to service our members during this extraordinary time and are building a bigger and stronger union. Over the last three weeks, more than 1,000 Kroger workers across the state of Indiana have joined UFCW Local 700 as grocery stores hire more people to try to keep up with demand and new hires realize the value of becoming a member of our union family.
The local’s representatives are running new member orientation meetings in UFCW-represented grocery stores on a regular basis even during a pandemic. In addition to time spent reviewing the many benefits of becoming a UFCW member and the protections of our union contract, representatives are handing out “swag bags” to new members that include hand sanitizers, a member guide and discount card, union handouts, and other useful items.
“Grocery and food workers are making sure that folks in our communities have the food and supplies they need, and we are building a bigger, stronger union to win the benefits and job protections our members need,” said UFCW Local 700 President Joe Chorpenning. “We are fighting every day, crisis or not, for our members to have a better life.”
