IRI Workers in New York Join RWDSU/UFCW for a Better Life

Over 300 workers at Innovative Resources for Independence (IRI) in New York recently joined RWDSU/UFCW Local 338 for the better wages and benefits they have earned and deserve. The new members, who work with developmentally disabled individuals in group homes and day habilitation facilities, are employed at IRI locations in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Nassau County.

“I wanted the union for job security,” said Joshua L, who has worked at IRI for 11 years as a direct support professional. “I spoke with my coworkers about the benefits of having a union and I worked on keeping them informed because the union benefits all of us.”

Currently, RWDSU/UFCW Local 338 represents over 1,000 members who work for nonprofit agencies that care for the developmentally disabled, including IAHD and Community Resources.
