On March 15, 67 members of UFCW Local 540 who work at the Silgan Containers manufacturing plant in Paris, Texas, ratified a new contract that includes better wages and benefits. The ratification of the three-year contract comes days after the workers, who manufacture cans for Campbell’s Soup Company, were locked out of the plant as they fought for a fair agreement. The workers returned to work on March 19.
“We’re going back to work with a new contract that will make both Silgan Containers and our entire community a better place,” said Jeff Coulter, bargaining committee member, who has worked at the plant for over 25 years. “Making our community strong, and being able to provide for our families are top priorities for all of us – we’re glad we stood together so that we can begin a new day with the company with a new contract that helps everyone involved.”
