Allegany County HRDC Workers in Maryland Join Local 27

Registered nurses at Allegany County Human Resources Development Commission (HRDC) in Cumberland, Maryland, voted to join UFCW Local 27 on Feb. 16. Allegany County HRDC is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of the young, the low-income, the elderly and those with disabilities in Allegany County.

The registered nurses, many of whom are women, decided to join UFCW Local 27 because they were concerned about wages and health care, and wanted the protection of a union contract.

“We’re happy for the workers at Allegany HRDC,” said UFCW Local 27 President Jason Chorpenning. “They now have a voice on their job just like their coworkers. Our organizing staff did a great job in securing a card check and bringing in this victory for Local 27.”
