On Feb. 2, members of UFCW Local 21 who work at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen, Wash., ratified a new contract. The contract covers just over 300 workers at the hospital and includes wage increases, a ratification bonus and limited health care increases.
“We were able to make progress with a better contract because we took action together as hospital workers and the community. Over many months, we wore buttons and stickers at work, we signed petitions and in December, we also did an informational picket,” said John Warring, a microbiologist and one of the long-time UFCW Local 21 leaders at the hospital.
