On Dec. 5, about 90 workers at Gordy’s Market in Eau Claire, Wis., ratified their first contract. The workers are members of UFCW Local 1189.
The new three-year contract includes wage increases, expands paid time off, and preserves benefits so that rates are unchanged throughout the life of the contract.
“Gordy’s stores should be a shopping experience for those who shop locally and want to support responsible employers,” said UFCW Local 1189 President Jennifer Christensen. “Many people were concerned that they didn’t have a union store to shop at, but now Gordy’s workers have a union contract. We encourage shoppers to support this union store.”
