Workers at two NYC book stores who joined the RWDSU this past summer have ratified their first union contract. Workers at the stores are excited about their new wages and benefits.
“Now everyone is super happy,” said employee Cameron Addicott. “We’re able to get back to what we do best, and there isn’t any worry in the work place. There’s that knowledge that you have that support when you are part of a union,” Addicott added.
The contract brings immediate raises for workers and higher starting pay for new hires, along with annual pay increases. In addition, workers will now receive paid vacation time off and holiday bonus pay. Most importantly, workers now have a grievance procedure and along with dignity and respect on the job.
In addition, the contract secures neutrality at a third Book Culture location soon to open, so that workers can decide quickly and fairly to join the RWDSU if they so wish.
Book Culture has two Manhattan locations specializing in publications in the arts and humanities.
