Staffers from the UFCW International Organizing Department and the Distillery, Wine and Allied Workers Division met with members earlier this summer for a one-day training session designed to emphasize the importance of relationship building in organizing.
The Member Engagement, Mobilization and Identification presentation, held at UFCW Local 1D in Brooklyn, N.Y., also aimed to help the nearly 20 participants learn how to best structure conversations with potential member activists for future organizing campaigns.
Organizers were encouraged by the training and hope it leads to more engaged members. “It is a beautiful thing when your membership comes together to share a common goal for the betterment of the union,” one organizer said. “This training will serve to increase the local’s membership and, most importantly, grow the Distillery, Wine and Allied Workers Division to help us move forward.”
