UFCW locals are encouraged to attend the AFL-CIO’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Civil and Human Rights Conference, which will be held in January of 2025. The conference, which centers around the theme “Toward the Dream: Reimagining the Fight for Justice, Freedom and Progress,” will take place in Austin on Jan. 9 to 12 at the Hilton Austin.
The 2025 conference will occur on the heels of what will be a historic election and a crucial moment for the labor and civil rights movements. The conference presents an opportunity to come together to not only strengthen the bond between the two movements, but also to reignite the shared commitment to democracy and achieving racial and economic justice for all.
Registration is now open, and UFCW locals can begin signing up here. The general fee for the conference is $275 and for workers age 35 and younger, the fee is $200. Please let Ben Cassel (bcassel@ufcw.org), confidential secretary at the Civil Rights and Community Action Department, know if your local will be participating.
The negotiated room rate for the conference at the Hilton Austin is $234 per night. Locals may secure a room at the Hilton Austin here. The UFCW was able to secure a sub-block of rooms for the conference, and locals should contact Ben Cassel (bcassel@ufcw.org) if they need rooms by Thursday, Oct. 31.
Additional updates about the conference, including the agenda, speakers, workshops and more can be found here in the coming weeks.
