Food service workers at 17 Wing Air Force Base in Winnipeg, Canada, approved an updated contract with their employer, Aramark, earlier this fall. Negotiated with UFCW Local 832, highlights of the three-year deal include contributions to the education and training fund, an increased shoe allowance, wage increases, and expanded health benefit allotments.

The small team of cafeteria workers helps provide hot and cold food for the more than 2,900 military and civilian personnel stationed at the base.
The local also represents a separate Aramark bargaining unit where workers do similar work providing food and refreshments to workers in a Boeing parts production facility in Winnipeg.
“There’s creativity required with these negotiations because details of this contract are connected to other Aramark locations,” says Joe Carreiro, UFCW Local 832 negotiator. “We found a few areas to push and make some great improvements for our members.”
