Nearly three years following their vote to unionize, employees at Rainbow Blossom Natural Food Markets finally have a contract. UFCW Local 227 represents the 23 grocery workers employed as cashiers, baristas, stockers, and department leads in Louisville, Ky., who ratified their contract on April 28.

Included in the three-year agreement are provisions for just-cause disciplinary actions, meaningful arbitration processes, yearly salary increases, holiday pay, and job security assurances.

“It was a long road to get here, and I’m proud of the contract we negotiated. Standing alongside my coworkers as we fought for a voice on the job has shown me that true solidarity is impossible to ignore,” said Maggie Mitchell, an assistant manager and bargaining committee member.
Employees at other Rainbow Blossom Natural Food Market locations in the area have yet to unionize, but UFCW Local 227 president Bob Blair added, “This is an important win for Kentucky natural foods workers, and we can’t wait to see our siblings at our other five locations join us.”
