On May 9, UFCW locals collected non-perishable food made by union members to be donated to local food banks in support of the 34th annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

With support from the UFCW and other organizations, the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has helped fill the shelves of food banks in cities and towns throughout the United States and feed some of the nearly 48 million Americans who struggle with hunger.
With one in seven American households experiencing food insecurity, this event is an inspiring way for our union to make a positive difference in the lives of our friends, neighbors, and the communities we serve.
UFCW Local 1428 has participated in Stamp Out Hunger for over 11 years in partnership with the Eagle Rock Post Office in Los Angeles. This year, members from Local 770 joined to help unload the trucks of the letter carriers as they returned from their routes, where they picked up donated food along the way.
Also in California, more than 40 members, stewards, retirees, and staff from UFCW Local 135 supported the effort at three San Diego post offices.
“It feels good to give back to my community and stand alongside so many dedicated volunteers making a difference,” said Sarah Maya-Goldbaum, UFCW Local 135’s workforce and community development director. “I take pride in coming out every year to support the efforts of the letter carriers and the San Diego Food Bank. Events like Stamp Out Hunger show what can happen when unions and the community come together to help families in need.”
The drive takes place each year on the second Saturday in May and is timed to shore up dwindling food supplies in summer, when donations decrease and children no longer have access to school lunch programs.
