The UFCW’s Education and Staff Development Department is making significant strides in expanding its Reflective Engagement training and Reflective Conversation workshops, aiming to provide UFCW members and staff with advanced communication and planning skills.

UFCW Local 367 staff participated in a comprehensive Reflective Engagement and Planning training session on March 19 to 20 in Tacoma, Wash., immersing themselves in role-play exercises and applying the Reflective Conversation model during two full days of learning. On the second day, staff members focused on planning skills, developing actionable work plans, and fostering a supportive and enriching environment.

The UFCW Local 1776KS Shop Stewards Conference was held on March 16 to 17 in Hershey, Pa., and attracted 400 participants eager to enhance their leadership abilities. Trainers from the Education and Staff Development Department led two dynamic 90-minute Reflective Conversation workshops, engaging approximately 75 to 80 Shop Stewards. The participants practiced essential skills such as opening up and actively seeking information from one another, resulting in fully interactive and highly engaging sessions.
“Through the class, I gained valuable insight on quality questions and how best to gain information needed to move both the co-worker and the union forward,” wrote one of the attendees on the UFCW Local 1776KS workshop platform.
“As the UFCW continues to broaden its training programs, union members and staff are gaining tools not only for professional advancement, but also for personal growth,” said Director of Education and Staff Development Jenny Reed. “The emphasis on reflective communication and collaborative planning is helping to build stronger, more connected communities within the union.”
