Last week, 5,400 UFCW Local 23 Giant Eagle grocery workers ratified a new contract. The contract covers workers across 36 stores in Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The new four year contract raises wages and maintains an affordable family health care plan.
In the time leading up to negotiations, workers had several member mobilizing actions to send a message to the company that they were a united and strong unit. During negotiations members also approached the company with a new business structure that benefits both sides by investing more resources in workers in order to see higher store sales.
