On July 29, about 90 members of UFCW Local 832 who are employed as bus drivers and monitors at the Seine River School Division in the district of Lorette in Manitoba, Canada, ratified their first contract.
These workers joined UFCW Local 832 last July. The drivers and monitors previously had a worker’s association, but after concerns came up that the association wasn’t able to resolve, the workers organized and joined UFCW Local 832. After voting for a strike mandate and against the first offer, the workers prevailed in getting the contract they earned and deserve.
The new four-year contract includes increases to many aspects of the wage structure, including increases to the hourly pay, premiums, and allowance.
“The credit for this great first agreement goes to the hard work and dedication that our bargaining committee brought to the table,” said UFCW Local 832 President Jeff Traeger. “They landed a good deal that they can be proud of.”
