More than 300 members of UFCW Local 222 who work as registered nurses at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, voted overwhelmingly to approve a new contract on Jan. 29. These hard-working members of UFCW Local 222 have been standing together for months to protect their health care and secure better wages since contract negotiations started in June of last year.
The three-year contract will improve staffing, protect health care, increase wages, support fair scheduling, and strengthen workplace safety. The new agreement also includes retroactive pay bonuses.
UFCW Local 222 released the following statement regarding the new MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center contract:
“With today’s vote for a new MercyOne contract that improves wages and benefits, registered nurses with UFCW Local 222 sent a strong message about the power that comes from nurses standing together. The new contract addresses understaffing, provides competitive wages and benefits, strengthens workplace safety, and invests in the skilled care that MercyOne nurses provide every day. We are grateful to the entire Siouxland community for their strong support of MercyOne registered nurses and a contract that puts patients first.”
