Members of UFCW Local 175 working at Cargill Limited in Brampton, Canada, secured a five-year agreement earlier this summer. The more than 60 full-and part-time workers are employed in the meat grinding and processing units at the Cargill Limited plant.
New benefits include:
- Signing bonus of 1,000 Canadian dollars
- Wage increase of $3.00 an hour over the term of the agreement
- Lead Hand wage increase
- Meal allowance increase
- Boot allowance for part-time employees
- Heathcare benefit expansion
Other improvements include extending recall rights for laid off employees to two years instead of one, and more worker-friendly attendance policies.
Following a tough round of bargaining, the negotiating committee sought the assistance of a mediator to reach a solid agreement.
In addition to the Brampton plant, the UFCW represents thousands of Cargill workers throughout the province of Ontario.
