Over 250 members of UFCW Local 700 who work at the Conagra dairy plant in Indianapolis recently ratified a new contract that raises wages and improves benefits. The workers make food that ends up on kitchen tables all over this country, including Reddi-Wip and margarines such as Blue Bonnet, Fleishmann’s, Parkay, and Move Over Butter.
The four-year contract was ratified after months of negotiations. By standing together, members were able to secure retroactive pay, raise pay and narrow the two-tier wage gap and create a 401(k) company match. The contract also keeps insurance premiums affordable, improves seniority provisions, and guarantees vacation protection and overtime opportunities.
“We are proud to have some of the best contracts in the industry,” said UFCW International Vice President and Local 700 President Joe Chorpenning. “This contract means that our members will have higher pay, better job security, and more opportunity for a better life.”
