UFCW Local 342 is holding its first school supply drive for local children on Long Island and Staten Island, N.Y. Through August 15, members of Local 342 are collecting school supply items such as backpacks, crayons, pens, pencils, binders, notebooks and other supplies at its three area offices, and will donate them to the Christian Church at Holbrook and a special education elementary school on Staten Island.
Local 342 has a long history of giving back to the local community, from raising funds for breast cancer awareness to hosting toy drives for needy children during the holidays and collecting winter coats to support the drives of local churches.
“Local 342 is very proud of our tradition of supporting the local communities where we live and work,” Local 342 Communications Specialist Kate McDowell said. “Over the years, Local 342 members have generously filled and donated hundreds of Easter baskets for needy children, given Christmas gifts to many smiling young faces, and helped feed dozens of hungry families at Thanksgiving. We are aware that difficult circumstances can happen to anyone at any time, and our members find that one of the many rewarding aspects of being part the Local 342 family is how we come together to lend support, help and cheer to people in need.”
